Not to be confused with the bluegrass country band, also from the US.
Formed in January 1989 by Pat McCahan from the ashes of his previous band, Distorted World.
Since 1993, Exit-13 is a studio-only project.
About Didactic Grind and other unreleased plans of Exit-13:
- Didactic Grind had 13 new songs, which were 80+ minutes long. Three of the songs were over eleven minutes each. "Didactic Grind" was like a combination of early Napalm Death and Santana. There were lots of extended jams and soloing and lots more jazz influences. Some basic tracks were recorded: Steve O'Donnell - guitars, Terry Sherry - bass, Dave Witte - drums. But during the recording sessions, Bill Yurkiewicz had a car crash and was unable to record vocals. When he tried to add vocals several months later, it transpired that the sound engineer had deleted the entire recorded session. At this point, Steve and Terry had already left the band and Bill thought that re-recording of this material without them would not be a good idea.
- Exit-13 also had nine new songs for various planned split 7" EPs with Soilent Green, Bongzilla, Agathocles, Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ, and '30s actress Mae West, nearly finished in the studio when Steve O'Donnel left the band.
- A Smoking Songs sequel was also planned, titled Drinking Songs.
- Before disbanding in '97, Bill announced a line-up of James Plotkin and Scott Hull on guitars, with Rob Williams on drums.
